✦ Synopsis
Matrices of molecular hydrogen isotopes pure or diluted in argon and doped with Hg have been irradiated with a KrF laser and studied by FlTR spectroscopy. Hg pumped to the 'P, state reacts with Hz, D1 and HD, giving new molecules: HgH2, HgD, and HHgD. The three fundamental vibrational modes were identified and a linear symmetrical geometry is confirmed.
