โœฆ Synopsis

By doping 3 nematic liquid c;rysti with &symmetric choral compounds it has been shown that t&e twist of the resulting cholesteric structure is proportional to the solute concentration. Using as doping agent a photolabiie ctial compound a cholcsteric-nematic transition has been obtained under UV irradiation.

In cholesteric liquid crystals the application of an electric field parallel to the helii axis can change the wavelength of selective reflection. For decreasing pitch of the studied mixtures, the colour shift becomes more stable against the field-induced transformation of the initial Grandjean struc

A nucleation and ,srowth model is proposed to explain NMR observations of the reorder+ of a nematic-cholesteric lรฏquid crysta1 mixture. The model involves the growth of three dรฏmensional reordered regions. It predicts a time dependence involving expl-Ar?l) with N = 2.5. Previous measurements fit the

In this paper we present results of the Monte Carlo simulation of a 2D nematic liquid crystal model in the presence of an externally applied electric field. The molecular interactions were described by the Lebwohl -Lasher Hamiltonian. The boundary conditions employed in the simulations corresponded
