โฆ Synopsis
The steady-state photoirradiation of C6,, in the presence of triethylamine (TEA) in toluene solution was found to induce a photochemical reaction to give a stable product. Nanosecond transient absorption studies have revealed that triethylamine quenches C6,, in the S, state with the rate constant of (6.2LO.5) x IO9 M-' s-' to yield an exciplex, which has an absorption spectrum similar to that of the T-T absorption of C& This exciplex seems to react with Cao in the ground state to give a stable photoproduct.
