โœฆ Synopsis

The photochemistry of pyrene and naphthalene adsorbed on A1203 has been studied by pulsed laser techniques. Osy-Zen quenches the fluorescence of both molecules very efficiently while the triplet state of pyrene is quenched much more slowly (X l/100). Nitrobenzene and diiethylaniline also quench pyrene fluorescence_ Photolysis at hi& laser power photoionises pyrene, and the back reaction observed throu& the pyrene cation follows tunnel& kinetics. Co-adsorption of long chain alcohols on Al203 leads to a decrease in the fluorescence quenching rates v&h both 02 and nitrobenzene.

The laser-induced photopotential was measured on n-ZnO and n-Ti02 polycrystalbne electrodes with and without a "current doubling reagent" HCOONa. The rise time of the photopotential was 5-10 ns. The origin of the photopotential, the kinetics and the mechanism of the current doubling process are disc
