✦ Synopsis

The synthesis, characterization, and applications of liquid-crystalline polymers are emerging areas of scientific research. Lyotropic and thermotropic mesomorphic polymers are briefly reviewed, and the spectroscopic properties of solutes in liquidcrystal polymer hosts are discussed. The results of some photochemical investigations in ordered systems are described. Potential uses of liquid-crystal polymers are given.

## Abstract Addition of a small‐molecule liquid crystal (5CB) to a cyanobiphenyl‐based side‐group liquid crystal polymer (SGLCP) stabilizes nematic order, increasing the isotropization temperature (__T__~NI~) more than 15 °C. Despite synergistic ordering at high concentration, small amounts of poly
