were carried out: Male B and a female were allowed to become familiar with a cage. On the first day, after 4 h of social deprivation and absence of food, another male A was put in the cage for 20 min. Afterward, a male C was put in the cage for another 20 min. On the second day, first C and then A were confronted with B, with identical deprivation beforehand. These combinations were repeated three times. Males A and C were known to male B and deprived in the same way as male B. The animals were chosen so that A (850 g) was heavier than B (800 g), which was much heavier than C (680 g). The vocalizations uttered by the males were transmitted telemetrically and recorded on tape. The points of maximum amplitude were analyzed in "cackle" (Schott, K.1-K.9) and "kecker" (Schott, T.4-T.6) vocalizations uttered by B. The courses of
