The proton and carbon NMR spectra for a series of substituted indenes [C,H,R, R = H, CH,, Si(CH,),] and indenyl anions [as the lithium salts, C,H,R -; R = H, CH,, Si(CH3),] are reported. The proton and carbon resonances for the 5-membered ring exhibit pronounced changes as a function of the substitu
