✦ Synopsis

From measurements of phosphorescence and triplet-triplet absorption spectra of the title compounds, it is concluded that their lowest triplet states have a RL* or mixed mr*-xx* character with relatively short lifetimes. This unusual character may be caused by distortion of the geometrical structure of molecules.
