FOUNDER AND ORGANIZER OF THE AMERICAN CARBON
The American Carbon Society owes its existence to the vision and efforts of Dr. Philip L. Walker, Jr. and his colleagues who formed the American Carbon committee in 1957. for the purpose of ~~rganizing a biennial conference on carbon science and technology. This committee evolved into the American Carbon Society in 1974 under the outstanding leadership of Dr. Walker, who served as Secretary-Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee for many years. Under Dr. Walker's guidance the Society has grown into a multi-disciplinary organization that is highly regarded throughout the worldwide carbon community. Dr. Walker was also one of the first SOCIETY Associate Editors of the journal Carbon. serving in this capacity from 1962 until lYX1, and then on the Editorial Advisory Board until the present.
The members of the Executive and Advisory Committees, your colleagues, and many friends in the American Carbon Society salute you, Phil, and thank you for the many years you have devoted to the interests of the Society and the carbon community.
