By ozone cleavage of methyl brassidate or erucate (1) and subsequent Wittig olefination with pentylidenetriphenylphosphorane methyl (Z)‐13‐octadecenoate (4) is obtained which easily can be converted to (Z)‐13‐octadecenal (7), a component of the Rice Stem Borer sex attractant.
