Abstract

The four new phenylpropanoidโ€substituted catechins 1, 3, and 4 and 3โ€epicatechin (2), together with seven analogues, were isolated from the AcOEt extract of Smilax china L. (catechin=(2__R__,3__S__)โ€2โ€(3,4โ€dihydroxyphenyl)โ€3,4โ€dihydroโ€2__H__โ€2โ€benzopyranโ€3,5,7โ€triol). Their structures were determined by means of spectroscopic analyses, including HRโ€MS, IR, ^1^Hโ€ and ^13^Cโ€NMR, and 2D experiments (COSY, HSQC, and HMBC), and comparison with known related compounds.
