β¦ Synopsis
Phase transitions in mixtures of mesomorphic (liquid crystalline) cholesteryl esters were studied by visual thermal microscopy. Binary mixtures of saturated cholesteryl esters (cholesteryl nonanoate, myristate, and palmitate) and binary mixtures of these saturated cholesteryl esters and an aromatic cholesteryl ester (cholesteryl benzoate) show transitions from the solid phase to the mesomorphic phase a t temperatures that are depressed well below the phase transition temperature of either pure compound. ## Abstract We examine the effect on surfaceβwetting phase transitions in polymer mixtures when the degrees of polymerization of the two components are different. It has been demonstrated by Schmidt and Binder (__J. Phys. (Paris)__ 46, 1631 (1985)) that in a symmetric polymer mixture a secondβorder
## Abstract In this paper we consider a phase transition in binary systems describing the solidification of a dilute alloy in one space dimension, in which the equations of heat and mass transfer are coupled through the conditions at the free boundary. A kinetic condition is introduced to suggest a
