Controlled phase selection has been demonstrated in the crystallization of a melt from deep undercooling. In the Fe-Ni alloy system the metastable b.c.c, phase has been solidified by a seeding technique for nickel content up to 30%, using a trigger made of FeMo alloy. The stable f.c.c, phase is show
