β¦ Synopsis
We study the dynamics of two coupled solid state lasers subject to an injected field. A singular perturbation technique is used to reduce the full set of rate equations; we present a comprehensive bifurcation analysis of the resulting phase model. We find four distinct routes to full entrainment as the injected field amplitude increases; bifurcation diagram predicts that the entrainment (reflected in the total intensity) does not monotonically improve with the injected field strength. Our numerical simulations suggest that the reduced phase model captures the relevant dynamics well beyond the asymptotic regime in which it is derived.

Under certain conditions, there are multiple analytical solutions for the interface velocity in ternary two-phase diffusion couples. We have tackled this degeneracy problem by employing an isothermal phase-field model for diffusion couples that allows comparison with the analytical solutions. We fin
Phase-field models provide a way to model fluid interfaces as having finite thickness. This can allow the computation of interface movement and deformation on fixed grids. This paper applies phase-field modeling to the computation of two-phase incompressible Navier-Stokes flows. The Navier-Stokes eq
