✦ Synopsis
The phase equilibria in the LaCoO 3 +LaMnO 3 +BaCoO z + BaMnO 3 system were studied at 11003C in air by powder X-ray di4ractometry of quenched samples. The existence of three phases in the BaCo 1؊y Mn y O 3؊ system was con5rmed. Two of these phases are homogeneous in the range 0.154y40.30 and 0.384y40.55. Both have hexagonal structures (space group P6 3 /mmc), but 10-layered and 12-layered cells, respectively. The last phase, with approximate composition BaCo 0.285 Mn 0.715 O 3؊ , was indexed on the basis of a 21H-structure with the unit cell parameters a ؍ 5.7676(8) and c ؍ 49.58(1) A s (space group P6 3 /mmc). It was found that La 1؊x Ba x MnO 3؎ phases with 04x40.10 possess O-orthorhombic structures (space group Pnma) and samples with 0.1254x40.30 have rhombohedral structures (space group R3 c). The homogeneity range of solid solutions of the general formula La 1؊x Ba x Co 1؊y Mn y O 3؎ with orthorhombic, rhombohedral, and cubic structures has been determined. On the basis of the experimental results and earlier data, the pseudoquaternary phase diagram at 11003C in air was constructed.
