Five phase diagrams of pseudo-binary phospholipid systems consisting of N-methylated phosphatidylethanolamines with different numbers of methyl groups were investigated and compared. Four of the five phase diagrams showed phase separation in the gel phase. The width and the concentration ranges of t

✦ Synopsis
Differential scanning calorimetry and freeze-fracture electron microscopy were applied to study the effects of LiCI and CaCI 2 on the lyotropic and thermotropic properties of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine and dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolamine in dispersions with excess water. Significant changes of the phase transition temperatures and phase transition enthalpies were observed. The phase diagrams of the systems dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine/dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolamine/H20/LiCl and dlpalmitoylphosphatidylchofine/dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolanfine/H20/CaC12
showed that the influence of Li +-and Ca2+-ions does not effect fundamental changes in the miscibifity properties of the two amphoteric phospholipids.
