The relationships between the pharmacokinetic behaviour of glycyrrhizin and its restorative eect for hepatic function were investigated in patients with chronic hepatitis and in rats chronically treated with carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4 -treated rats). โฆ Synopsis
The pharmacokinetics of glycyrrh~n (G) in eight patients with chronic hepatitis receiving chronically i.v. administration of 120 mg dose of G was investigated. The plasma concentration of G in the patients after dosing declined in a monophasic manner.
However, the pharmacokinetic profiles varied among patients. The mean elimination half-life ( t l A ) and the total body clearance (CL,,,) were 6.0 h (range 4.3-10.7 h) and 7.9ml h-I kg-I (4-5-12-7 ml h-I kg-I), respectively. The variation of the CL,,, for G was closely related to that of aspartate aminotransferase (r= -0.739, peO.05) and alanine aminotransferase (r= -0,783, p<O*O5) activities in the plasma.

GBV-C/Hepatitis G virus (GBV-C/HGV) is a newly discovered viral agent, found widely among healthy blood donors and among individuals at risk of parenterally transmitted infections. GBV-C/HGV is found frequently in coinfection with HCV. A population of 109 HCV positive patients was examined for the p
