β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
A pH sensitive hydrogel was obtained by Ξ³βray radiation polymerization of AAc in aqueous solution. The temperature sensitive monomer NIPAAm or the same pH sensitive AAc monomer was then grafted to the PAAc hydrogel with gamma radiation. The combβtype graft polymers obtained netβAAc__βgβNIPAAm and the netβAAcβgβ__AAc, have been studied through determination of graft yield and swelling behavior at room temperature. The critical pH value was found between 4.5 and 5.5. An unexpected unique behavior with an UCST has been found around 30β32βΒ°C. Other techniques employed to characterize the combβtype polymer included DSC, SEM, and FTIRβATR.
