For almost that long, there have been controversies about the prices it pays for the Canadian gas. In late 1993, two PG&E customers, the County of Stanislaus and Mary Grogan, filed a class-action, antitrust, treble-damage lawsuit (County of Stanislaus u.

Pucijiic Gus &Electric Co., Civ. No. CV-F93-5866 (E.D. Cal.)) seeking more than $800 million in damages growing out of the Canadian gas acquisitions.

On August 25, 1994, the district court dismissed major portions of the lawsuit. At the same time, however, Judge Wranger certified the class represented by the named plaintiffs and permitted them to file an amended complaint, in County of Stunisluus v. Puczfic Gas &
