Abstract

While transitions in leadership and key expert roles can create opportunities for improvement and innovation, they also run a high risk of failure and loss of business‐critical knowledge and social capital. At Pfizer, key stakeholders engage in a carefully orchestrated process that harvests know‐how critical to the role going forward, transfers it to the successor, and identifies and addresses any remaining knowledge gaps.
