โฆ Synopsis
Pertussis Immunization and the Central Nervous System Ad Hoc Committee for the Child Neurology Society Consensus Statement on Pertussis Immunization and the Central Nervous System* Consensus Statement Administration of pertussis vaccine is associated with a short-term increased risk of seizures, most of these being febrile seizures, and complete recovery is expected. Case reports have raised the question as to whether there is an association between pertussis vaccine and progressive or chronic neurological disorders, but controlled studies have failed to prove such an association. At the present time, there is no means by which a diagnosis of pertussis vaccine-encephalopathy can be established in an individual case. Summary of Selected Literature This summary highlights the deliberations of the Consensus Committee. It is intended for the education of the Child Neurology Membership and the readership at large, and was not part of the approval process.
