ever, a more balanced development of the topics presented in a chapter might be more desirable.

Finally, although it was stated that a basic understanding of power system analysis is assumed, a background in probability and statistics, optimization theory, and state variable notation might have also been recommended.

Each chapter concludes with a list of references and problems to be solved. The references are rather sparse and solutions to the problems are not provided.

The author is to be congratulated on producing what is probably the first textbook in the very important area of power system planning. The usefulness of this book as a textbook is not clear but is recommended for reading as well as a guide for anyone involved in electric power system planning.
