✦ Synopsis

While more than 50 studies (Byme, 1971) have consistently shown that attitude similarity leads to interpersonal attraction, little is known about individual differences that affect the similarity-attraction relationship. Recent simulation data reported by Touhey (1974) raise the possibility that different personality traits characterize subjects who respond to identical proportions of similar attitudes with greater or lesser attraction, and the present investigation attempts to validate these simulation data in Byme's attraction paradigm.

Subjects were 46 male and 34 female undergraduates at the University of Tulsa. The six following personality scales were administered to the subjects:

  1. All djs = 38. larity.
