In a previous article(6), the recent .American literature with regard to the relationships between selected disabilities and personality characteristics was discussed. The four disabilities reported on in this review were arthritis, asthma, accidents (proneness), and duodenal ulcers. Malaria was investigated but data were not found on relationships with personality. There was a paucity of 0,bjective results. but both objective and subjective data were tabulated and will be discussed in conjunction with the objective results of the present study.

Counseling programs for veterans provide a unique opportunity to collate disability data and objective test results. Veterans were discharged with medical diagnoses in large enough numbers to permit the study of relationships between these disabilities and other factors. The results of the Alinnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, which were available for such a relatively unselected population. provided an objective measure of personality within a framework of personality scale terminology in wide usage. Data on age, education. and intelligence .also were available for these men which would permit either of matching the cases within each disability group for these factors, or of considering the factors along with the personality data as differentiat-
