✦ Synopsis

IN THE CASE OF SAMPLING WITHOUT REPLACEMENT 1. In his paper [1], Karl Borch discusses the question of the probability distribution of a probability. His discussion of the meaningfulness of such a question relies heavily on a 'sampling with replacement' scheme. It is the purpose of this note to point out that the argument holds also for a 'sampling without replacement' scheme.

  1. Suppose that it is known that sampling is taking place without replacement, and consider the hypothesis H.

The sample, of size n, is drawn from a single urn containing r red and rn -r black balls.
