✦ Synopsis

Letter to the Editor

Persistent Uterine Cervical Dysplasia

Cytologically detected dysplastic changes are heterogenous cellular abnormalities with the majority of dysplasia regressing back to normalcy without any intervention. Persistent dysplasias, however, have a higher potential for progression to malignancy compared with nonpersistent dysplasias. We present the risk of progression of persistent dysplasia.

This study was carried out from 1976 through 1987 at a time when there was no information on the biologic behavior of dysplasia among women from developing countries. The study design and detailed procedures have been described elsewhere. '
