✦ Synopsis

Non-photochemical persistent spectral holes can be burned in the spin-forbidden R, line ofCr(en):+ (en = ethylenediamine) in ethylene glycol-HZ0 (2: I v/v) glass and poly(vinyl alcohol). Holewidths of the order of 300 MHz are measured. Spontaneous hole-filling data are analysed by means of various models that are currently discussed in the literature.
