Abstract
A novel reconstruction method of a one‐dimensional medium from information contained in the frequency‐domain reflection coefficient is considered. An approximate formula produced by applying a fractional linear transformation (FLT) to the nonlinear Riccati differential equation is used. The phase compensation constant (PCC) is introduced in order to reduce the phase error of the reconstructed permittivity profile of a discontinuous medium. Finally, the effective error reduction in the reconstructed profiles is shown by examples, which demonstrate the validity of this method. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
