✦ Synopsis

Permanganate ion oxidizes glycine in phosphate buffered solutions, and the product obtained was identified as a soluble form of colloidal manganese dioxide. The influence of glycine on the colloidal product shows glycine concentration changes extinction coefficients of the colloidal product, and only when the influence of glycine has been eliminated, the theoretical and experimental reaction rates coincide. The dependence of the rate of flocculation on several experimental variables was also considered.
