✦ Synopsis

EDITORIAL COMMENT: Perineal pad testing for the detection and quantification of urine loss has been the topic of a great deal of discussion amongst urogynecologists in recent years. Various tests have been devised utilizing varying time periods and with an even greater variety of exercise schedules to be followed by the patient during the test or how the results of that test may be used in patient management. As we see from this study, its usefulness in the differentiation of continent women from incontinent women is even questioned. A method to quantify the amount of urine lost by a patient is needed if we are to be able to compare results of surgical procedures and drug studies from investigator to investigator and institution to institution. Continued research in this area is needed.
