✦ Synopsis
The use of solar energy for desalination may be achieved in a variety of ways -the commonest technique being the conventional I improved solar stills. An alternative approach proposed by us earlier (International Solar Energy Congress, 1977) involves the integration of a solar energy collection system with a conventional MSF desalination unit. This paper presents the performance ratio and area economy of such a unit for a variety of process conditions. The economic returns are found to be comparatively favourable over a wide range of operating conditions.
