A new formulation is presented for the analysis of contact in degenerate shell elements. This formulation accounts for the transverse stress and strain through the shell thickness and can accommodate double-sided shell contact. The kinematic contact conditions are expressed accurately in terms of th

โฆ Synopsis
The performance of an anisotropic Morley thin shell element in large deformation explicit dynamic analysis is investigated in this study. A contact algorithm is also developed to study the behaviour of this element in metal forming processes, as a substitute for the continuum quadrilateral shell element in circumstances where it does not behave well when skewed. Some benchmarks and real problems are solved to assess the performance of the element.
