We present a closed form expression to analyse the error performance of a differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) digital modulation format in an optical soliton communication system. In the analysis we include the effect of Gordon-Haus jitter, which is mainly due to the amplified spontaneous emissio

β¦ Synopsis
A new ultrashort bit carrier called the guiding-center soliton is considered as an agent of transmitting the high-bitrate digital data. A special feature of such a pulse to return its own width to the initial value after a passage through lengthy fiber span without any external control can be successfully exploited to achieve an extreme performance data. By the use of the previously developed method of experimental simulation, it is demonstrated that a 32-bit binary words, including picosecond guiding-center solitons, could be transmitted throughout up to 250 km length span built up of low-loss single-mode fiber.
