โฆ Synopsis
In this paper, a performance-based seismic design procedure, which is directly associated with pre-quantified performance criteria, is presented by employing a displacement-based approach. A lower bound of yielding displacement of the structure to satisfy these performance criteria is proposed. The approach is general in employing either equivalent elastic or inelastic response spectrum. Non-linear time history analysis verified that this approach is applicable to control the target displacement to the performance acceptable limit. Its flexibility in considering special effect such as near-fault or strong motion duration and simplicity in a proposed multiple performance objectives design are demonstrated.
