โฆ Synopsis
Perfluoroelastomer expected to raise temperatures
Greene, Tweed & Co has developed a new high temperature Chemraz ~' ~ perfluoroelastomer compound which can withstand temperatures in excess of 600 ยฐF.
The new Chemraz 615 compound exhibits excellent compression set resistance at high temperatures, and in thermal tests it proved itself superior to competitive perfluoroelastomers. When tested for 70 hrs at 572 "F, the compound exhibited elongation of 166%, an 11% change from the original physical elongation property of 149%. Under compression set test conditions, for 70 hrs at 400 ยฐF, in air, the new Chemraz material recorded a set of 10.9%. This increased to a set of 23.8% when the material was tested for 70 hrs at the higher temperature of 550 "F.
Greene, Tweed & Co is still in the process of fully evaluating the chemical resistance of the new compound, though it expects the chemical resistance to be as good as, or better than, competitive perlhmroelastomers. When exposed to 93% sulphuric acid at 77 ยฐF, the new compound exhibited a swelling in volume of 0.63% after 70 hours. In 57% nitric acid solution at 77 ยฐF, it had swollen 2.8% after 846 hours, and when soaked in potassium hydroxide at 248 ยฐF for 144 hours, the new compound's volume increased by 1,6%.
