✦ Synopsis

Abstract

We demonstrate that the percolation threshold in a two‐dimensional disordered nanoparticle film constructed from colloidal self‐assembly is possible to be less than the classical value. A lattice gas model with Monte Carlo simulation is adopted to study the morphological self‐assembled patterns and the relevant percolations numerically. The non‐ohmic behaviour, which indicates Coulomb blockade in percolated paths, of disordered Au nanoparticle films was observed in our electrical transport measurements. By using polystyrene nanoparticles in different solvents (water and methanol), the effects of different interaction energies in colloids upon self‐assembly are examined and compared with simulated results.
