β¦ Synopsis
Perch population characteristics of small lakes were examined with a special reference to lakcs which have acidified recently due to atmospheric deposition of air pollutants.
Tho population density and biomass of perch wcrc higher in an acid (pH 4.5) clear watcr lakc with low aluminium concentration than in recently acidified (pH 4.3-4.7) clear witter lakes with higher aluminium levcls. The structure of perch population in an acid (pH 4.4) hnmic lake was simihr t o rcccntly acidified clear water lakes.
The population dcnsity and the biomass of pcrcli 'cvorc significantly higher in G lakes with pH z >5.0 t,hnn in 6 lalies of p H e 5 . 0 whereas thc mean age and length a t a given age mere higher in tho inore acid lakes.
