Abstract
The DAVID satellite mission of ASI will pioneer the use of W‐band for collection of high data volume and their forwarding to the Internet. Various data types will be transferred by DAVID, including digital images. The image quality evaluation is considered, stressing the human visual system‐related aspects. A neural network‐based approach is proposed for a clever quality estimation through a suitable combination of results provided by literature methods. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
