✦ Synopsis

on Minorities, the Medically Underserved & Cancer is not simply a meeting that takes place every other year. It involves the input and planning of hundreds of dedicated individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life. It draws upon the strength of numerous public, private, not-for-profit, and even for-profit organizations. The Symposium Series has given individuals and organizations an opportunity to build relationships at a time when there are many stresses that would pull us apart. One reason for the success of the Biennial Symposium is that people need policy, and policies need people. In other words, it is critical for those who make policies to interact regularly with those who are affected by those policies. Otherwise, we will simply continue to collect data and identify issues but will actually maintain the status quo with little real progress.
