✦ Synopsis
Even the place of delivery was without influence, although the authors recommend a delivery near a tertiary center because of the Australian population distribution. In contrary to the opinion that a longer delay of surgery or a secondary closure following Silo procedure leads to a higher morbidity or mortality, even the surgical repair before or after 7 hours postdelivery, or even as a secondary intervention, showed no significant difference in the outcome. The time to postoperative feeding alone was combined with a significant reduction of duration of central line, number of septic episodes, days of ventilation, TPN, and even hospital stay. Based on their experience, the authors recommend early commencement of trophic feedings as the most important aspect to reduce postoperative morbidity.-Peter Schmittenbecher
