Rafe McCawley y Danny Walker son dos jóvenes pilotos de la Fuerza Aérea de Estados Unidos. Crecieron como hermanos, aprendiendo a volar en viejas avionetas.
Rafe se ha enamorado de Evelyn Stewart, una enfermera que cumple su servicio en la Marina.

Con la promesa de regresar, Rafe pone rumbo a los mortíferos cielos del canal de la Mancha, mientras Evelyn y Danny son transferidos a Pearl Harbor, en el paradisíaco Hawaii.
