PCI's global top 10 coating producers Dutch firm AkzoNobel NV took the no 1 spot in PCI's ranking of the top 10 global coatings producers based on coatings sales in 2009. AkzoNobel, which offers a variety of paint and coating and speciality chemicals, reported coatings sales of $12.5 bn (€8.7 bn) in 2009, and total revenue of $19.9 bn (€13.9 bn). AkzoNobel's coatings range includes global and household brands such as International, Dulux and Sadolin. US-based PPG Industries ranked second with coatings sales of around $9.2 bn in 2009. The company supplies coatings for use in auto OEM, auto refinish, industrial, architectural, aerospace, packaging and protective and marine industries. PPG's corporate sales reached $12.2 bn in 2009, around 75% of which came from coatings. Taking the third spot is US firm Sherwin-Williams Co with coatings sales of around $5.31 bn. The company produces, distributes and markets coatings and related products to professional, industrial and commercial, and retail markets mainly in North and South America. Coatings sales accounted for 70-75% of Sherwin-Williams' consolidated net sales of $7.094 bn for the year. Rounding out the list of top 10 coating producers are DuPont Performance Coatings, BASF Coatings, The Valspar Corp, Kansai Paint Co Ltd, RPM International Inc, Nippon Paint Co and Jotun.
