โฆ Synopsis
An oxide precursor (NEPTH) comprising 0.5 Y,OJ + CuO + ZBaCuO,,, is used to synthesize bulk YBa,Cu,O,_, superconductor. By thermomechanical processing of a silver tube packed with the precursor at 950ยฐC for less than 9Omin, and subsequently cooling in air at less than ZOOCjh, orthorhombic YBa,Cu,O,_ X phase is directly obtained. For processing at 950 and 9OO"C, the superconducting properties are correlated with the pertinent process parameters.

Orthorhombic YBa2Cu3OT\_x was obtained when a synthesized precursor containing Y203, BaCuO2.5 and CuO was heated rapidly to 950-1020ยฐC in air, held for 30 min, and quenched. During DTA at 20ยฐC/min, the BaCuO2.5 in the precursor decomposed at 838ยฐC. The BaCuO2.5 constituent did not completely decompo
