The ultra-small-angle X-ray and neutron scattering techniques are useful techniques for the investigation of colloidal systems. The very high small-angle resolution of these scattering techniques has provided important and novel information to elucidate the formation mechanism of colloidal crystals.

## Abstract We review recent work done on polymer colloids by smallβangle Xβray scattering (SAXS) and smallβangle neutron scattering (SANS). Special emphasis is laid on the variation of scattering contrast for both methods. The theory of contrast variation as applied to SAXS and SANS is presented.
understanding the details of the mechanisms of the formation The formation of colloidal silica particles and the dynamics of of these systems, especially the formation of nanosize, stable the nanostructure of the particles are investigated by small-angle particles derived by the Stober method (5-18)
