β¦ Synopsis
analysis of particle motion in rapidly oscillating flows provides a simple conceptual basis for particle retardation, hovering, and levitation. The method of averaging from nonlinear mechanics is the major mathematical tool in' this analysis. The results provide a conservative design basis for particle motion modification in fluctuating flows, a phenomenon which may find application in flotation, settling, and multiphase contacting operations.
