β¦ Synopsis
The blocking effect on grain boundary sliding of second phase particles is formulated by the inclusion method. From the energy consideration, internal stresses produced by the blocking particles which oppose the boundary sliding are derived. The usual grain boundary relaxation is modified and reductions of the relaxation strength and time are obtained. With additional consideration on the diffusional accommodation of the blocked boundary sliding by diffusion around the particles, an expression similar to those obtained previously is recovered for the effective boundary viscosity at high temperatures. Comparison of the theories with an experiment in a Cu-SiO, alloy has been made.
Internal friction of a bamboo structured specimen is also considered when boundaries contain blocking particles.
