The gauge independence of transition rates as opposed to the gauge invariance of the equations of motion and gauge dependence of operators and state vectors is critically examined and explicitly demonstrated, both in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. โฆ Synopsis
A parametric representation for the gauge fields invariant under a gauge transformation is presented in the case of the pure SU(2) gauge field theory. This class of gauge fields constitutes the Gribov horizon on a gauge-fixing surface. A special gauge in (1+2) dimensions is proposed, in which the Gribov horizon is representable in a simple, analytical form, and the Faddeev Popov determinant is explicitly calculable. A possible new mechanism to generate a non-zero vacuum expectation value for the gauge field strength is suggested.
