✦ Synopsis

The transmission of partially coherent disordered quantum wires with few conducting modes is investigated. A wire is modeled as a system of interconnected scatterers within Landauer-Bu È ttiker theory, implementing a finite phase coherence length by fictitious, momentum-conserving reservoirs. The average logarithmic transmission and the damping of conductance fluctuations can be understood analytically, what may be relevant for the estimation of the phase coherence length in the nonuniversal regime.
