This role of desalination here is one with a trenmndous future.
It seems that with the anticipated growth of population in some regions and industrial growth and development in others in the face of t)e most uneven distribution of water resources, there are locations which will be unable to maintain adequate water supplies without some water reuse.
Though not often stated in these terms , it is a fact that corrmuni ties dawn' river often reused the effluent of upriver communities in their water supplies-Today, Orange County, California , is already using purified sewerage to stop sea water encroachment and replenish its aquifers.
Ue are seriously looking into the possibilities of future use of purified sewerage as a potable water source. Only purified industrial effluents can meet environmental requirements in some states.
All papers in this section present results of different water conversion schemes in the service of water reuse and look at the applications of the purified waters _ While we can say that at least some modes of water conversion have reached wide acceptance and maturity, water reuse using these techniques is but in its infancy. Water reuse is at the threshhold of an explosive growth today. (RR)
