β¦ Synopsis
Summa y
Some parent/offepring relatione of a quantitative character are discuesed, in particular in relation to the mean change from one generation to' the next. It ie ehown that thb prediction of this ''progrem" aa the heritability multiplied by the eelection differential takes only the slope of the parent/ offspring relation into account and holds if, and only if, the population mean ia a fixpoint of the mid-parentloffepring regremion in the case of a character that is unrelated to mx. In particular, two examples show that thie may not be the cam if the Character is related to fitneee by pleiotropio effecta of single genee.
